Basking in Burgundy: The September Issue

“Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching. Because whatever you see can inspire you.”

-Grace Coddington

Every September, my excitement grows for two particular things:

The coming cool weather.

and…

The September issues.

Every magazine under the sun produces and releases a September issue that weighs more than the pumpkins everyone becomes crazed over. Each issue is full of the best fashion to come, inspiration galore! I receive and read each one gathering tidbits and ideas to use throughout the cooler months.

There are so many factors that come together for a September Issue: fashion, lifestyle, beauty. After absorbing so much, I knew I had to share my own September issue- the best of everything that inspired me all month long!

FASHION

There are so many great pieces that have been released this season! Here are my top picks- click the picture to check them out:

Of course, burgundy is my favourite colour year round but for this fall I’m dying over rich velvet, buttery leather, pure cream and classic pieces. A lot of brands are releasing interchangeable guitar straps to use with your favourite bag and I love it. Such a fun way to express personality! Ankle boots are HOT HOT HOT for the season- super comfy and incredibly wearable you really can’t go wrong with pairing them with everything and anything you wear.

BEAUTY

Confession: I only paint my nails in the winter really and normally only very dark colours- the cult classic Lincoln Park After Dark is a go to September after September for me! I also turn to dark lips like NARS Audacious in Charlotte; I’ve been wearing it almost every day.

Completely obsessed with this Sunday Riley retinol oil, completely evens out and refreshes my skin- without leaving it dry or sensitive. To keep my hair in equally fresh condition I use Living Proof nourishing oil- no dry ends and NO frizz.

LIFE

fall-love

This whole year has been about putting people first and making sure I take the time to take care of me. Champagne doesn’t have to be saved for the special occasion have a glass on a Thursday evening to celebrate being alive! Enjoy some time without all the distractions of technology, power them off and enjoy those around you- go outside soak up the inspiration of the fall colours and sounds.

WHAT TO READING

what-im-reading

Have you ever heard of Carine Roitfeld? If not GOOGLE HER NOW. She was the editor in chief of Vogue France for 10 years before branching out and starting her own magazine CR. It’s more than your average glossy, it’s an editorial feast for the eyes! A heavy duty magazine that is more of a book and definitely a keeper.

Aimee Song of Song of Style wrote the new benchmark of “how to Instagram” books. Amazon has it for under $15 even though it’s worth a million!

I haven’t just been devouring fashion magazines and books this month. I’m also doing a lot of personal reading on how to grow personally in the marketing field. I can’t recommend this book enough! Easy to understand and full of great info.

Sure American magazines can be found on every grocery store shelf but the really good inspo comes from the foreign versions. At times I find American Vogue meh but Vogue Italia never ceases to deliver the best fashion spreads. Even though I can’t read a word, the pictures never cease to amaze and inspire.

WHAT TO WATCH

movie

“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms.”

– You’ve Got Mail

Remember when Meg Ryan ruled the 90’s chick flicks? Those films still rule! A fall classic you can’t go wrong with the tale of romance that is You’ve Got Mail.

I’ve recommended this fashion documentary before and praised Carine Roitfeld above, you will not regret watching this! It’s a delightful combo of fashion, French language and a remarkable soundtrack. (BTW it’s on Netflix!)

Don’t you just love a film that makes you smile and feel all warm inside? A Royal Night Out will do both for you. A charming story of Princess Elizabeth at the end of WWII that you will want to watch again and again! (Also available on Netflix!)

How was your September? I’d LOVE to hear what inspired you or what you enjoyed.
