Makeup Monday: Making Clean Beauty Changes

I’ve made a lot of changes over the past few months while taking a hiatus from the online world.

The time has been spent grounding myself- of working on myself body, mind and soul.

I am very excited to share what I have learned with you over the next few weeks!

One of the changes I’ve made concerning my body is ensuring I’m using clean beauty products! I did a massive product clean out and have slowly been replacing everything in my bathroom with items that are free of parabens, phthalates, PEGs, ethanolamines, synthetic fragrance, BHT, BHA and even more! Why is clean beauty so important? The ingredients I just mentioned are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. When you put them on your skin they seep through your pores and into your bloodstream. Scary!

Let’s be honest- there is a reason these chemicals exist in products, they work! Clean beauty has not had the best reputation for being as effective as your classic products. In the last few years though, new brands have brought accessible and affordable clean beauty products to the market! Here are a few I have recently discovered and am LOVING.

Crystal Deodorant Clean Beauty

1: Crystal Body Deodorant Stick

There has been research for years on whether or not deodorant chemicals are connected to breast cancer. It’s one of those things that it all depends on who you follow and trust. Personally, I knew traditional deodorants have aluminum and other toxins that just don’t belong anywhere near a valuable system like my lymph nodes! I tried a couple different products but sometimes simplicity is perfection. Literally a block of salt that you wet and apply, the Crystal stick lasts for a year and leaves no dreaded stains behind! Keep in mind- this is a deodorant and NOT an anti- perspirant. That being said I have worn it camping for three days in the woods without a shower and it did it’s job incredibly well.

Burts Bees Clean Beauty

2: Burt’s Bees Avocado Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment

I have long been a fan of Aussie’s 3 Minute Miracle. It leaves your hair feeling healthy, shiny and strong! I didn’t think I was going to be able to find a more natural product that gave me the same results. While grocery shopping I threw this in my cart knowing Burt’s Bees is by far a more clean beauty product. I had low expectations though. They dropped even lower when I squeezed thick green goo into my hand! I forged ahead and covered my dry hair with the treatment- which smells AMAZING.

Tip: Always apply deep conditioners or treatments to dry hair! Your hair is absorbent. When you wet it the follicle absorbs water and not the ingredients you are looking to for healthy hair benefits.

After soaking in the tub for 45 min, I washed my hair as normal. The product rinsed clean and left behind shiny, silky and totally rejuvenated hair! I’m obsessed and have been using it three times a week for the past month (roughly a bottles worth). This is a product the will definitely stay stocked in my clean beauty routine!

Tarte Bronzer Clean Beauty

3: Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer

I have been using the NARS Laguna Bronzer for about four years now. Then last year they opened their market to include China, a country that requires animal testing! Tarte was an obvious replacement choice. They NEVER test on animals and are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances! The shade of Park Ave Princess is very similar to my beloved Laguna and never gets streaky or orange! I don’t know about waterproof but I do know it doesn’t melt off on a hot, humid day.

Paw Paw Lip Balm Clean Beauty

4: Suvana Organic Paw Paw & Honey Balm

I’ve been using Paw Paw balms for a while now, but just switched to the Suvana version with honey (I’m a total honey addict)!

“Paw Paw can help with repairing, tightening and smoothing skin. Antioxidant, amino acids and nutrient rich,

Paw Paw is high in Vitamins A, C and E and has soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.”

Nourished Life

From cuticles and lips, to dry spots and cuts this ointment does it all. All Paw Paw balms are not made the same! Suvana makes theirs without petroleum jelly, fragrances or preservatives and NO animal testing ever.

Are you into clean beauty or have you ever thought about making the switch?

I would love to hear about your experiences and views on this up and coming market!

What I like about this, is how organic and natural it is. I understand there is no perfect product, it has it’s pros and cons. However, trying the ones which are organic makes me feel extra assured.

YES. All their products are really good EXCEPT the eyelash extending fibers; I hated those so much.
