My Gal Friday is all about supporting other bloggers, and sharing some of my favourite pages with all of you.
This week I want to introduce you to Isabel of Isabel Alexander.
I was lucky enough to connect with Isabel via Instagram and this woman has impressed me so much with her style and brains!!! Isabel not only runs an amazing style blog, but she is a lawyer, and has designed her own petite clothing line; I honestly don’t know how she has time for it all.
I was so happy when I found out this gorgeous lady and I live in the same area, and that we had the chance to meet up for brunch last week. I always loveeee gettting together with another stylish foodie!
I love Isabel’s style; she is a master of layers, and being European she adds a certain chicness to all of her looks that is incredible unique. Here’s a couple of my favourite looks she has featured recently!
Isabel is incredibly accomplished, but one of the things I want to share with you is her clothing line. Never before have I met anyone who decided they wanted to design a line, and then went out and did exactly that! Her clothing line is especially for petites and full of gorgeous colour blocking. (Check it out here.) These are a couple pieces that I am adoring from her designs:
One of my favourite things about writing My Gal Friday posts is sharing an interview with the featured gal. Isabel was kind enough to answer a couple of questions for you lovely readers.
1: What do you think is the difference between style and fashion?
“I think, generally speaking, fashion can mean a multitude of things, and as a term, it is used widely to mean what is popular now, the current trends, a designer’s creativity. Used as an adjective, it also means that someone is very in touch with the current trends and fads.
Style, on the other hand, it conveys a certain constant to me. Essentially it is a constant in creativity and fashion adapted to suit and enhance one’s personal needs and appearance. It can take a while to develop a personal style and it has to do with the way you mix your clothes and colors in a way that suits your frame and personality; also it is repetitive and identifiable by others because it is unique to you. Finally, if one succeeds in developing a distinctive style that is also appealing to the majority, I would consider it a great achievement as style is timeless and fashion is temporary.” (AMEN.)
2: What is one item you bought on sale and can’t live without?
“I recently bought 2 infinity scarfs with zippers on the side from GO JANE: one in white and one in black. Each was on sale for $5 (!). It was the best $10 I ever spent. They are made of cable knit, super practical and versatile and I have been getting a lot of wear out of them. I styled them around my neck, around my shoulders, as a corset and cinched them with a cute wide belt. They provide infinite options and it is so much fun styling them.” (I love the different ways she has thought of to style them!)
3: What inspired you to create your own line?
“I decided to go ahead and make my own line because I love fashion and because I find that the fashion industry is extremely hostile to the petite fashionistas. Specifically, I find that there is a need to fill a gap and that gap is: good design + affordable prices + available in petite sizes. I actually addressed this in my latest blog post which you can read here: www.isabelalexander.us/blog. So, I wanted to fill this gap and create a line that is modern, offers an interesting palette of colors, is affordable and is available in sizes starting with 00P so that all petites can stay fab and chic.”
4: What is your hobby outside of your line and blogging?
“I am a foodie. I love going to interesting restaurants and trying out all kind of quirky food combinations. Quality over quantity is always my motto, even in food. I also love traveling and I travel as much as I can and I plan on traveling so much more this year. So, stay tuned, exciting things are coming up, travel wise.” (Both of these things are the best- especially when combined!)
5: One super random fact about yourself!
“I love animals. When I was 10 I ended up with literally 20 cats because I kept taking home stray and abandoned cats. 3 of them were females and gave birth the next year so I ended up with like 20 cats that my mom had to find homes for … there were just too many cats. I also brought home that year a stray puppy with a broken paw that I cared for …I am a total sap when it comes to animals.” (Isn’t she so sweet???)
