Last weekend was my birthday! I’ve never been a big birthday person, but somehow my celebrations last the course of a couple of weekends between friend and family celebrations; I am so blessed to have so many wonderful loved ones in my life. This year, all I wanted was oysters and champagne, so my Sweet Baboo planned a quick weekend getaway to Maryland’s National Harbor. He said we could do all my favourite things, including take several photoshoots for the blog.
The day came and we packed everything up, drove the drive, and found it was cold, wet, and I was really feeling down from what would be a sinus infection. Not the best for a photo shoot, or a birthday weekend! Instead of doing everything we planned, we ditched the photoshoot and stayed curled up together in our hotel room and spent time in each other’s company (not trying to be mushy, but with both of us in school and working these moments are so rare).
We stayed at the AC Hotel (by Marriott actually!). It has a clean modern design and amazingggg view of the Harbor. The Hotel has a gorgeous rooftop bar (which we unfortunately did not get to utilize between the rain and me being sick), and is situated next to The Walrus, a wonderful oyster and ale restaurant. If you ever have a chance to visit the area, I could not recommend this hotel enough! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast was outstanding.
It wasn’t the day we had planned, but it was completely perfect. He took me for oysters and champagne, and even packed on of my favourite local champagnes with cupcakes for a late night treat. I could not have asked for a better birthday- the gift of created memories is the best gift of all.
