Faux Fur for the Chill!

Faux Fur, Paisley, Bell Sleeves and Camo- Oh my!

Like my New Years, this outfit is pretty busy! I decided I wanted to put all they style elements I’m digging right now into one look.

However, unlike putting everything into this outfit, I wouldn’t try putting

EVERYTHING into your life!

For me, 2017 is going to be all about saying NO.

Hear me out, life can be so full of everything and anything that it can be #HARD to manage it all and keep your sanity at the same time. So I’m not going to. I’m done with feeling like I always have to do everything. I will not constantly overextend myself, or say yes because I feel I must.

I’m going to spend this year learning what is really important and what does not hold any value in my life.

This outfit might mix camo, paisley, fur and bell sleeves as my favourite style features, but my life is going to hold #GOD, #FAMILY and #GENUINEFRIENDS (you know what I’m talking about….); I’m letting go of:

Societal pressure: With the advent of social media (especially with being a #BLOGGER), there is soooo much pressure from society to make every aspect of your life perfect. I don’t want to spend 2017 pretending mine is!

Pressure of tradition: I do things far to often because that’s how I always have or my family always has. Yes, at times this can be good, at other points, it’s time to throw that shawl off and forge your own path.

Gender pressures: Let’s be honest, as #WOMEN we are expected to do it all and handle it all. I don’t need to do twice as much as any man to show I’m just as good, and I won’t.

Kisses to each of you and to 2017! Let’s get this year started right, so we can finish it even stronger.

Going Old-School: Meet the Epilator

Perhaps you remember the term “epilator” from when you were a kid, your mom or grandma had one in their bathroom. I haven’t heard of anyone choosing one of these babies as their hair removal system of choice recently!

When Emjoi reached out to me about trying their eRase epilator which has 60 tweezers that pull out any hairs they come into contact with I immediately said #SIGNMEUP. I’ve talked before about how much I despise shaving so I thought this was the perfect chance to give a different hair removal method a try!

I stopped shaving and fortunately the device was quick to be delivered! It came in a cute little set for all your epilating needs:

I plugged it in and put those 60 tweezers to my week old leg growth, immediately teared up and yelped and promptly set it back on the sink. #NOPE

I knew  if I was going to give you babes a full review, I would have to get through at least one defuzzing session! So I got a glass of wine (or two), set my teeth and did a small section at a time. By the time I was done with that first miserable calf I was #HOOKED.

Epilator Tips

1: Take an Advil or drink some wine before your first time using!

2: Each session hurts less and less!

3: It’s not a one and done, but with continued use you’ll cut down immensely on the amount of time you have to shave or epilate.

I’m still using it a month later, and now the 60 tweezer thought doesn’t bother me at all! I will definitely continue to use it. In fact, despite the initial #NOPE I definitely would recommend trying one of these out.

Have you ever tried one of these? I’d love to know what your go to hair removal method is! Cause we’re girls and talk about weird stuff like this…..

Dear Santa: I made the naughty list, send the coal!

“Fine old Christmas, with the snowy hair and ruddy face, had done his duty that year in the noblest fashion, and had set off his rich gifts of warmth and color with all the heightening contrast of frost and snow.”

-George Elliot

Santa might be coming with presents for all the good little boys and girls but as an adult who values skincare, I’ll take making the naughty list and getting some coal in my stocking! If you haven’t checked out charcoal infused beauty products you are missing out. A natural purifier, coal is excellent at clearing your skin to give you your most blemish free year yet! #THANKSSANTA

1: Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser

Y’all this stuff is warming. It’s the best sensation ever at the end of a long day or first thing in the morning. It leaves your skin feeling cleansed but not dry or tight! I swear after using this for a week my pores practically disappeared.

2: Dr. Bright Mineral Whitening Toothpaste

The detoxifying nature of coal makes it the perfect addition to your toothpaste! It naturally freshens (not just masks!) your breath and the fine texture means it lifts and removes stains for whiter teeth and no harsh chemicals.

3: Beauty Blender

I’m sure you know all about the blending power of the original Beauty Blender sponge, but did you know they make a coal infused one? Coal is a natural antibacterial substance, which means your sponge will stay fresh and clean for longer. Yay for not feeling so badly about not washing it on the regular!

4: LUSH Coalface

I have raved about the #MAGIC of this soap before. I just can’t help it! I credit this coal product for getting rid of my acne and keeping my face clear. If you haven’t checked out LUSH before, I highly recommend their products. I will warn you- this soap does leave your face “tight” so even if you’re battling acne moisturize after!

5: Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Charcoal

I recently got turned on to these sponges and I’m never going back. Basically, you wet it and massage your face in circles for cleansing and exfoliation- no cleanser needed! It’s great for moments when you are feeling uber lazy but still need to get your skin cleansed- yet more environmentally friendly than wipes!

Are you on the naughty list and needing some more coal in your life?

I’d love to hear if you use any of these or are wanting to try them out!

Cozy Sweater Season: The Best Season of All

“Use your smile to change the world,

don’t let the world change your smile.”

I’m going to be so upfront with you. I haven’t been my very happy self the last few weeks. The move from VA to FL right before Thanksgiving was really rough. Between leaving friends and family behind, to heading toward the unseasonably warm (to me!) weather I just haven’t been able to smile as much as normal.

Then yesterday I realized I need to practice what I preach….

I’m always encouraging other women to change their attitude and focus on the positive in any situation. I laid out three steps to remind myself of the good in my current circumstance! I’m a HUGE fan of lists and notes, so I wrote this list in my little notepad I carry everywhere as an action plan to repeat when I’m feeling down.

1: Remove yourself.

The first thing I need to do when I’m feeling down or overwhelmed is to remove myself from the situation. I need to step back and focus on why I feel the way I do to figure out a solution, rather than drowning myself in work or something that will only on exaggerate the way I feel. I was focused on thinking the issue was stress from moving when it was really just I felt like I didn’t belong anywhere. PRAY.

2: Talk.

Once I discover the stem of what’s wrong, I will seek out a trusted friend to confide in and open up my heart to. Having someone as a sounding board can be such a help! I do go to therapy once a week as well- opening up and talking has made such a difference with my anxiety and depression. Closing off doesn’t help anything! I’m so thankful for support system that keeps me sane! PRAY.

3: Do something for you.

Sometimes you really just need a moment to do something you enjoy. I might not be happy about the warm fall weather in FL but I do LOVE the beach- taking a walk on the beach is a way to embrace the change in a positive way! PRAY.

What do you do when you are feeling down? I would love to hear how you handle big life changes!

My Real Christmas Wish

“The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings

and seek out ways to make life better for thos around us.”

-Terri Marshall

This is a post I shared last year but it is one of my favs that I felt needed to be shared again this year. I would love to hear if and how you give back during the holidays!

new sig

Christmas is upon us, and lists are flying all over the place! Everyone child is writing to Santa, and every adult a list of dreams. Do you remember how magical Christmas was as a child? The lights, the tree, the cookies, the gifts! Everything was full of wonder and joy. Over time you grew up and the day became less about receiving and more about giving.

As we approached this Holiday season and my husband and I began discussing gifts I realized- we are so blessed, we have everything we need and want. I might write a Christmas Lust List, but I really have no need for anything. My husband and I  decided to give our Christmas away. Instead of buying ourselves, and each other gifts we have adopted children in the area to give them a Christmas they will never forget.

angel tree

To do this, chose the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. It’s the absolutely amazing! Each child has a paper ornament with their name, top three items on their list, and their clothing sizes. The children are located in the area. According to the spokesperson we spoke with, the children we chose are located in local homeless shelters.

I can’t tell you how much joy I received from shopping for these children, more than any present I could have possibly found under the tree. We purchased each child’s wishes (from Barbies, to remote control helicopters, and even a bike), warm clothing for the season, filled each a stocking, and thought outside the box of gifts to bring them smiles. My heart breaks for each one of them, and giving them a Christmas seems so little in the grand scheme of things, but you never know what little thing God will turn into so much more. The children we shopped for have been on my mind and in my prayers constantly.

I couldn’t have imagined going into this season how giving Christmas away would bless mine and my husband’s lives, but I encourage each of you to remember the true reason for the season and to help other’s in any way possible. You don’t have to give your Christmas away- hold the door for a stranger, wish a neighbor Merry Christmas, call an elderly relative. There are so many little things you can do to bring joy to others this season.

My husband and I chose Angel Tree because it helps local children,

but there are so many organizations one can get involved with.

Toys for Tots is a wonderful non-profit charity where you get to have all the fun of choosing a toy (come on, even as an adult you loveeee Toys’R’Us!), and the children get to have their Christmas wishes come true. There are various drop off locations all over the country, many in banks and stores near you.

operation cc

I have worked with this organization ever since I was a small child. If you have children of your own I really suggest doing Operation Christmas Child. This one supports children around the world! You pack a shoebox with gifts, such as toiletries, stuffed animals, drawing tools, toy cars, jewelry (I include a flashlight in every box!) for a specific age group (boy or girl).

It’s a challenge to pack everything in a shoebox (come on ladies, we buy so manyyyyy shoes throughout the year- this is an amazing way to give back), but fun to put as much as possible in each. After packing the box, you attach a label which is scanned through the organization so you can see where your shoebox ends up! Also, you can create a generic box and choose which items to put in via their website. (You can do this anytime throughout the season!)

OCC is by the Samaritan’s Purse. Another option Samaritan’s Purse provides is sending anything from digging a well, to gifting a goat, or a care for a pregnant woman and her child. My grandmother and cousins were tickled pink last year when we donated chickens and a cow in their names! They have so many wonderful options I can’t list them all here, but please please please take a peek at their website and make a donation in your name, or for someone on your gift list.

I am so blessed to be able to help local children but to still enjoy all of my favourite things of the season: the tree, the tunes, the food, and my family. I hope each of you reading has an equally blessed holiday season full of love, and hope, and joy.
