“Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore.”
Dorthy, The Wizard of Oz
Confession: I HATE the Wizard of Oz. I know hate is an incredibly strong word which is not to be used lightly, especially in conjunction with a beloved American classic film. I don’t know why but everything about it grates on my nerves- except those fantastic red shoes that Judy Garland sports throughout. My feelings about bows on shoes are the complete opposite of those on the movie! I can’t express how happy these shoes make my innermost heart.
Bows are generally thought of as very feminine, and at times childish. However, when used in the right way they can be the perfect compliment to any look.
How to Wear Bows
- An imperfect bow, like the oversized floppy ones on the above shoes, keeps them from looking too Sunday School perfect. Plus, a modern shape makes the look fresh, not outdated.
- A bow with a soft velvet ribbon on your ponytail or braid is an on-trend way to add one, and the perfect compliment to a leather jacket or tougher look.
- Dainty jewelry with tiny bows can add a very light and soft touch to any look.
